Trail Talk
Mrs. Smith
Dear Bobcat Families,
We hope this message finds you well and that your school year is off to a fantastic start! It’s hard to believe we are already half-way through the first quarter. We’re so proud of the hard work and growth we’re seeing in our students every day.

A quick reminder to please send your child to school each day with a labeled water bottle. Staying hydrated is so important for learning, and having their own bottle helps minimize disruptions and keeps everyone healthy and focused.

On Tuesday, first quarter progress reports will be available for viewing through ParentVUE. We encourage you to take some time to review your child’s progress and celebrate their accomplishments. If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s progress, please don’t hesitate to reach out to their teacher—we are here to support you and your child every step of the way.

Thank you for being such a vital part of our school community!

Warm regards,
Mrs. Smith

PTES PTO

Welcome back, Bobcats! There is a lot going on this week in Bobcat country, and we’re here to give you all the latest information!

We’re finishing up the third weekend challenge for our Otis Spunkmeyer Cookie Dough & More fundraiser, and we are SO impressed with our Bobcat families! If you haven’t registered your child(ren) yet, please do so TODAY to be sure they can collect their sponsor prizes, as well as raffle tickets for a chance to win one of PTO’s separate prizes. Our prizes include various dessert boxes, lunch delivered to school for you and a friend, a free item from the upcoming Scholastic book fair, an Amazon tablet, and more…trust us, you do NOT want to miss out on this opportunity! While the weekend challenges provide extra incentive to our kiddos, they can still earn raffle tickets throughout the week:

  • Each student will earn 1 raffle ticket for registering for the fundraiser.
  • Sharing your personal fundraiser link with at least 10 people (social media counts!) will earn 1 more raffle ticket.
  • Students will earn 1 raffle ticket for every 5 items sold.

Even if you’re not interested in purchasing items or donating, sharing your student’s link and/or paper order form with friends, family, and even co-workers can increase sales/donation significantly. You never know who is willing to help until you ask! Our organization remains dedicated to raising funds for important classroom materials, supplies, and activities, as well as field trips and services that are not funded by the school district. We have currently raised $9,584.00, which is 64% to our goal – every little bit helps enhance the Bobcat experience for our kiddos, so please help where you can!

We don’t have an exact delivery date for our first spirit shirt order, but they should arrive shortly after Labor Day! We will send out an update via email to anyone who has a pending order through our online store as soon as we have definitive information. Our order included a few extras of each item to have on hand during some of our upcoming events, but you can also continue to submit orders on our site throughout the year! Most items are $15.00, and we are now offering tank tops, long sleeve shirts, performance tees, and hoodies (on top of the usual t-shirts). The kiddos love to show their school pride every Friday, so show your Bobcat spirit and get yours now!

Our first “Goodies with Grown-Ups” breakfast event is scheduled for THIS WEEK!! We hope to see all of you on Wednesday 8/27 from 7:30-8:30 am in the PTES cafeteria – don’t forget to RSVP today! We love seeing all the support for our Bobcat kiddos and encourage parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles, older cousins, and/or your closest family friends to attend. It is so important to understand that the definition of family isn’t the same for everyone, so invite those who are nearest and dearest to you!
We request that you please RSVP using the link below, along with an estimate of attendees from each family (be sure to include your student). You do not need to RSVP if you can’t make it, we just want to ensure we have enough food for those who plan to attend! Flyers went home with all students last week, so be sure to check those backpacks! They will also have a reminder sticker on their shirts on Monday afternoon, which includes the RSVP code as well.

Our first PTO member meeting of this school year is scheduled for Tuesday 9/16 at 4 pm (location TBA), where we will be introducing all our members and discussing plans for this year. Whether you are looking for volunteer opportunities, seeking information regarding upcoming events, or just want to meet other Bobcat community members, we hope to see you there! If you aren’t interested in attending our meetings, you can still see all the latest news by following us on Facebook using the QR code and/or link below. You can also reach out to us directly at PTESBobcats.PTO@gmail.com with any questions or suggestions.

Until next week – stay sharp, stay kind, stay Bobcat strong!

Attendance Matters!

Don't forget that missing just 18 days in a school year—that’s just two days a month—means a student is considered chronically absent according to the state of Arizona? Chronic absenteeism has a significant impact not only on a child’s academic success, but also on our school’s ability to earn a strong state letter grade, which includes a component specifically tied to reducing student absences.
At Peralta Trail Elementary, we believe every day counts. Students who are in school consistently are more likely to stay on track, build stronger relationships, and reach their academic goals. We know that sometimes absences are unavoidable—especially for medical reasons—and we completely understand. When that happens, please be sure to turn in a doctor's note to the office so we can document the absence appropriately.
We are asking for your continued partnership to help all our Bobcats succeed. Here’s how you can help:
  • Schedule appointments outside of school hours whenever possible.
  • Avoid extended vacations during the school year.
  • Talk to your child about the importance of showing up every day—ready to learn and grow.
  • Communicate with us if there are challenges getting your child to school. We’re here to help!
When we work together, we can make a real difference—not just in attendance numbers, but in the lives of our students. Let’s show up strong, Bobcats!

Lemon Battery

The Power of Lemons

🍋 Family STEM Activity: Lemon Power!
Celebrate National Lemon Juice Day – August 29
Get ready for a zesty experiment the whole family can enjoy! In this fun STEM activity, you’ll learn how to make a lemon battery and explore how electricity works using everyday materials.
🧪 You’ll Need:
  • 1 large lemon
  • 1 copper penny (or copper strip)
  • 1 zinc-coated nail (a galvanized nail works great)
  • 2 alligator clip wires (or regular wires with ends exposed)
  • 1 small LED light or digital clock (battery-powered kind with removable battery)
Steps:
  1. Roll the lemon gently on a table to loosen the juice inside.
  2. Insert the penny and the zinc nail into the lemon about 2 inches apart. Make sure they don’t touch inside the lemon.
  3. Attach wires:
  • Clip or connect one wire to the penny.
  • Clip or connect the other wire to the zinc nail.
  1. Connect the other ends of the wires to your LED or clock terminals.
  2. Watch what happens — your lemon can power a small device!
🔍 What’s Happening?
The lemon juice acts like a battery fluid (electrolyte), causing a chemical reaction between the copper and zinc. That reaction creates a small flow of electricity!
💡 Try This Challenge!
  • Can you power a device with two or three lemons connected together?
  • What happens if you try a lime or an orange instead?
  • Record your results and draw what your lemon battery looks like!
Have fun experimenting and Happy National Lemon Juice Day! 🍋

  • Pull all the way up in the car loop for drop-off and pick-up
  • Blocking the car loop is not permitted, please park if you need to go into the office
  • Parent drop-off students, walkers, and bike riders will enter school at the front gate upon arrival
  • Please make sure that your child is exiting the car on the passenger side of the vehicle
  • Have your student pick-up sign clearly in your front passenger side window at dismissal
  • Parent pick-up students will exit school through the cafeteria back doors as staff call their names
  • Car loop students will be dismissed first for the safety of all, then parent walk-up will be dismissed
  • We encourage all of our families to use the car loop for a more efficient and safe dismissal for all

AJUSD Cell Phone Policy

Last year, AJUSD adopted a cell phone policy for our campuses. Thank you for your support and reminding your child of our Cell Phone Policy. Last year we only had a few issues and students were more focused during the school day. If a student has a cell phone, once on campus they are to turn it off and secure it in their backpack as it is not permitted to be out during school hours. Please see the new policy below:
