Trail Talk

Principal Smith

Dear Bobcat Families,
It’s hard to believe we’ve already been in school for three weeks! Our students have settled into their routines and are showing great responsibility in following procedures and contributing positively to their classrooms and our campus community. It's been wonderful to see the enthusiasm for learning across all grade levels!
As we continue navigating these hot August days, please remember to send your child to school with a labeled water bottle each day. Staying hydrated is especially important during this time of year, and we want every student to be comfortable and ready to learn.
This week, our 3rd–5th grade students will be taking their Illuminate Pretest assessments for Math and Reading. These tests are designed to give us a snapshot of where each student is performing on current grade-level standards. The results help teachers identify trends and tailor instruction to meet students' needs both in the classroom and in small groups.
Thank you for your continued support in helping our Bobcats have a strong and successful start to the school year!

With gratitude,
Mrs. P Smith

Attendance Matters

Attendance Matters!

Did you know that missing just 18 days in a school year—that’s just two days a month—means a student is considered chronically absent according to the state of Arizona? Chronic absenteeism has a significant impact not only on a child’s academic success, but also on our school’s ability to earn a strong state letter grade, which includes a component specifically tied to reducing student absences.
At Peralta Trail Elementary, we believe every day counts. Students who are in school consistently are more likely to stay on track, build stronger relationships, and reach their academic goals. We know that sometimes absences are unavoidable—especially for medical reasons—and we completely understand. When that happens, please be sure to turn in a doctor's note to the office so we can document the absence appropriately.
We are asking for your continued partnership to help all our Bobcats succeed. Here’s how you can help:
  • Schedule appointments outside of school hours whenever possible.
  • Avoid extended vacations during the school year.
  • Talk to your child about the importance of showing up every day—ready to learn and grow.
  • Communicate with us if there are challenges getting your child to school. We’re here to help!
When we work together, we can make a real difference—not just in attendance numbers, but in the lives of our students. Let’s show up strong, Bobcats!

Drop-Off and Pick Up Procedures

Safety is a priority and we want to make sure that the procedures are followed for a smooth arrival and dismissal. Any transportation changes MUST go through the main office (480-677-7540) no later than 1:00 pm.

Please remember the following:
  • Gates open at 8:15am, there is no supervision prior to this time; students should not arrive early
  • Pull all the way up in the car loop for drop-off and pick-up
  • Blocking the car loop is not permitted, please park if you need to go into the office
  • Parent drop-off students, walkers, and bike riders will enter school at the front gate upon arrival
  • Please make sure that your child is exiting the car on the passenger side of the vehicle
  • Have your student pick-up sign clearly in your front passenger side window at dismissal
  • Parent pick-up students will exit school through the cafeteria back doors as staff call their names
  • Car loop students will be dismissed first for the safety of all, then parent walk-up will be dismissed
  • We encourage all of our families to use the car loop for a more efficient and safe dismissal for all
  • PTES staff will supervise and assist with drop-off (arrival) and pick-up (dismissal)
  • Please be patient and on time

PTES PTO

Welcome to August, Bobcats! Hopefully everyone is surviving this latest heat wave and getting excited for our fall festivities!

Our online spirit gear site is officially open, and we’re already receiving orders! We will be submitting our first bulk order within the next week or two, with delivery estimated around EOM. We will continue to submit orders as our requests near the 50-item minimum, throughout the school year. We will send updates via email to anyone with pending orders, and we will be sure to provide "last call" reminders for each submission deadline. Show your Bobcat spirit and get yours now!

Back this year by popular demand, our Otis Spunkmeyer Cookie Dough & More fall fundraiser begins on Friday 8/8, and all students will go home that day with informational packets. We are introducing some exciting challenges and prizes, where students can earn a variety of prizes for not only selling items and/or obtaining donations, but also for tasks as easy as registering and/or sharing your link with others. Remember, even if you have no desire to purchase/donate yourself, sharing your link or paper order form with friends, family, neighbors, and even co-workers can make a huge difference!

We are thrilled to be hosting “Goodies with Grown-Ups” on Wednesday 8/27 from 7:30-8:30 am in the school cafeteria! We love seeing all the support for our Bobcat kiddos and encourage parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles, older cousins, and/or your closest family friends to attend. It is so important to understand that the definition of family isn’t the same for everyone, so invite those who are nearest and dearest to you! We request that you please RSVP using the link below, along with an estimate of attendees from each family (include your student). To ensure we have enough refreshments for everyone, each student has a limit of 4 guests.

Our first PTO member meeting of this school year is scheduled for Tuesday 9/16 at 4 pm (location TBA), where we will be introducing all our members and discussing plans for this year. Whether you are looking for volunteer opportunities, seeking information regarding upcoming events, or just want to meet other Bobcat community members, we hope to see you there! If you aren’t interested in attending our meetings, you can still see all the latest news by following us on Facebook using the QR code and/or link below. You can also reach out to us directly at PTESBobcats.PTO@gmail.com with any questions or suggestions.

School Lunch Account or Apply for Free & Reduced

Please use the QR Code to add money to your child's lunch account or to apply for free and reduced lunch; we encourage everyone to apply! Did you know that Peralta Trail Elementary receives Title I funding for important programs? Our allocation of Title I funding depends on the percentage of students who qualify for Free & Reduced lunch; this is why we encourage you to apply each year. Be sure to apply if you have not done so already for the 2025-26 school year. Thank you!

AJUSD Cell Phone Policy

Last year, AJUSD adopted a cell phone policy for our campuses. Thank you for your support and reminding your child of our Cell Phone Policy. Last year we only had a few issues and students were more focused during the school day. If a student has a cell phone, once on campus they are to turn it off and secure it in their backpack as it is not permitted to be out during school hours. Please see the new policy below:
