Dear Families,
As we enter the final two weeks of this school year, I want to take a moment to reflect on what an incredible journey it has been. From the excitement of the first day of school to the many milestones we've celebrated together, this year has been filled with learning, growth, and joy.
Our students have made tremendous progress—academically, socially, and emotionally. Whether it was mastering multiplication, exploring new books, participating in school clubs, sports, performances, or simply learning how to be a kind friend, each child has accomplished something meaningful. We are so proud of their hard work and resilience!
As the school year winds down, we still have a few exciting events ahead. Please be sure to check the "Dates to Remember" below and classroom communications from your child's teacher for updates on end-of-year celebrations and important reminders to wrap up the school year.
To our families: thank you for being our partners in education. Your support, communication, and involvement have made a big difference in your child's experience. We are truly grateful for the trust you place in us every day. To our fifth graders moving on to middle school—congratulations! We will miss you, and we can’t wait to see all the great things you will do next.
Wishing all of our families a safe, relaxing, and fun-filled summer ahead. Please encourage your child to read often, stay curious, and enjoy every sunshine-filled day!
With appreciation,
Mrs. P. Smith
Principal, Peralta Trail Elementary

Nurse Shea is a true champion for our students and staff, always going above and beyond to ensure everyone is cared for—no matter the need. We are deeply grateful for her commitment to our school community and feel incredibly fortunate to have her as a member of our Bobcat family!

As we approach the final month of the school year, we want to remind you how important daily attendance is—especially now. This is a crucial time when students review what they've learned, complete important assessments, and participate in engaging activities that help tie everything together. Each day your child is in class, they're building confidence, deepening their understanding, and celebrating their progress with their classmates.
Let’s work together to finish the school year strong! Your child’s presence matters—every day counts.
Don't forget to call in an absence if your child has to miss school and if they are out for a medical reason, please turn in your doctor's note to the school office. Remember that being absent more than 10% of the total days in session is defined as chronic absenteeism (more than 18 days for the 180 day school year).

🔢 Math Riddle of the Week 🧠
I am a number between 20 and 30.
If you take away 2, I become a number that is a multiple of 5.
What number am I?
Answer: 27
Because 27 - 2 = 25, and 25 is a multiple of 5
Challenge: Create your own Math riddle to share with others!
🧮 Math Problem of the Week ✏️
Lena has 3 boxes of markers.
Each box holds 8 markers.
She gives 7 markers to her friend.
How many markers does Lena have left?
🌵 STEM in Nature: Desert Detective Challenge
Objective: Explore the Sonoran Desert ecosystem to discover how plants and animals have adapted to survive in one of the hottest and driest places on Earth.
🔍 Activity Steps:
-
Choose a Location: Visit a local desert area such as Silly Mountain, Peralta Trail Regional Park, or your own backyard.
-
Select Three Desert Species: Look for different plants or animals. Consider iconic species like the saguaro cactus, ocotillo, or cactus wren.
- Investigate Their Adaptations:
-
Science: What physical traits help them survive the desert heat and dryness?
-
Technology: How might they "use" natural resources like sunlight or water?
-
Engineering: How have they "designed" their structures to protect themselves?
-
Math: Can you count the number of spines on a cactus or estimate the height of a saguaro?
Record Your Findings: Draw pictures, take photos, or write descriptions of each species and its adaptations.
Share Your Discoveries: Present your findings to your class or family, explaining how each species has adapted to its environment.

Welcome to our last FULL week of school, Bobcats! As excited as we are for summer break, this is a bittersweet time for our Bobcat community.
Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week at PTES was a huge success, and we want to thank everyone who contributed to our daily celebrations. We believe that treating our teachers with the respect and appreciation they have earned results in a more positive and successful learning environment for our children. Our amazing Bobcat teachers work extremely hard to effectively educate the future of America, and the least we can all do is thank them for all their efforts and a great school year!
Don’t forget, we will be hosting our end-of-year Water Day on Friday 5/16! While we have had many parents sign up to help with the event, we welcome any additional volunteers who are available from 12 pm until 3 pm and can assist with various stations around campus. If interested, please reply to this post on Parent Square or email us directly. Any individuals that volunteer will receive an email with additional details and confirm availability. We truly appreciate anyone willing to donate their time for this popular and exciting event! For all other families, Water Day is a beloved tradition at Peralta Trail where your kiddos will absolutely get wet – please plan accordingly and send your child(ren) with an extra set of clothes, towel, sunscreen, water bottle, and some kind of sandals (if desired). A flyer will go out with all students later in the week as a reminder, so be sure to check those backpacks!
Peralta Trail Elementary School is hosting the 5th grade promotion ceremony and family lunch on Wednesday 5/21, and all 5th grade students should have brought the invitation home last week. If you did not receive one, please reach out to your child’s teacher for another paper or digital copy. Families are asked to please RSVP using the QR code on the invitation, on or before Thursday 5/15, for food planning purposes.
Our next PTO member meeting is scheduled for Monday 5/19 at 4 pm in the school library, where we will be discussing feedback from this school year – what everyone enjoyed, suggestions for improvements, fundraising and event opportunities for next year, and celebrating the dedicated volunteers that make it all possible! As always, if you aren’t interested in attending our meetings, you can still see all the latest news by following us on Facebook using the QR code and/or link below. You can also reach out to us directly at PTESBobcats.PTO@gmail.com with any questions or suggestions.

Have you seen the other testimonials on Facebook about other schools in our district? We would love for you to share your positive experiences, kind words, or testimonials about our amazing teachers, support staff, classes, or anything PTES. Your feedback may be spotlighted throughout our district social media (see example to the left) and it helps us to celebrate with others how PTES shines bright! Every child deserves the chance to shine. Your tax credit donation can make that happen. Support AJUSD’s extracurricular programs and give students opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive.
Arizona residents can donate up to $200 (individual) or $400 (couple) and receive every penny back as a credit on your state taxes. But for our kids, the impact is priceless.
Your tax credit donation helps to support and sustain many types of programs at PTES such as GenTech STEM Education, afterschool clubs, and student field trips! You can designate where you would like your tax credit donation to go towards! Thank you for your support!

Thank you to those who have submitted shout-outs, it puts a smile on the face of the individual your are recognizing when it is read over the announcements and they get a printout copy to keep! We have the online form link below or paper slips in the office to share your shout-out for a PTES teacher or staff member. Students or family members may give a shout-out! |

Please use the QR Code to add money to your child's lunch account or to apply for free and reduced lunch; we encourage everyone to apply!

Thank you for your support and reminding your child of our Cell Phone Policy. So far we have had only a FEW issues and students are more focused during the school day. If a student has a cell phone, once on campus they are to turn it off and secure it in their backpack as it is not permitted to be out during school hours. Please see the new policy below:

We are excited to share with you that we are transitioning to Parent Square for our district family communication tool as it is more user friendly and easier to navigate. We are moving forward at this time to launch this tool and encourage you to check it out by following the link below.
